Our Philosophy
BECAUSE IT TASTES BETTER THAT WAY!

Uncompromising freshness is our commitment

Our dishes combine enjoyment and quality with healthy, light food. The secret of dean&david lies in the details. As a result we use only the freshest and accordingly vitamin and mineral-rich ingredients which are free from flavour enhancers – simple, healthy food prepared by hand!

We source all our products from selected, mostly regional suppliers. For health and environmental reasons, we use fresh, high-quality products, partly and seasonal from the region. Customers, partners and employees are our top priority, which is why at dean&david we attach great importance to sustainable and healthy growth. After the success of dean&david in Munich the company quickly found new partners who shared the commitment and enthusiasm of dean&david. Everyone involved is now proud of having established dean&david successfully beyond the borders of Germany.

THE dean&david Story

dean&david Switzerland

In 2012, Simon Schrämli adopted the franchising in Switzerland and opened the first dean&david-store in Basel within the same year. Until 2017 a further three stores in Zürich, two in Lucerne, one in Zug and a second store in Basel were established. The expansion for Switzerland is currently under way. Since 2017 dean&david Switzerland is managed by Reto Schleier and his young, dynamic team from the head office in Zürich.

Fresh to eat

After more than 2 years’ development the idea of dean&david – a concept made in Germany – was launched by David Baumgartner with the slogan “fresh to eat”. The success story began in 2007 with the first Salad Bar in Munich’s Schellingstrasse, and has since spread right around the world.

The idea for dean&david came to David during a sabbatical year following his political and economic studies. David travelled around the world with open eyes and was rewarded with the inspiration for his individual cuisine. His trip to New York is reflected in the salad bars. Australia is represented by fresh juices and smoothies, while Southeast Asia is responsible for spicy Thai curries and soups. A veritable potpourri of pleasure or, to put it another way: lifestyle with a kick of freshness! Back in Munich and in cooperation with Teresa Tesche, nutrition specialist at Weihenstephan University, fast food was redefined and became simple, modern and urban. A hotspot for healthy trend-setters was born.

NINE TIPS

FOR A WHOLESOME DIET

NINE TIPS

FOR A WHOLESOME DIET

What does a wholesome diet look like?
The “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung” (DGE) e. V. has summarized current
scientific findings into simple rules. Based on these rules, we have compiled 9 tips for a wholesome diet, that you can easily integrate in your everyday life – just try it!

Enjoy diversity

No food alone contains all the nutrients. The more varied our food, the lower the risk for an unbalanced diet.

5 a day

Enjoy at least 3 servings of vegetables (about 400 g) and 2 servings of fruit (about 250 g) every day. In terms of quantity, vegetables and fruits should make up the largest food group in a wholesome diet.

Animal products and grain

MDairy products such as yogurt and cheese can be enjoyed daily, fish rather only once or twice a week and meat not more than 300 to 600 g per week. For grain products, the wholegrain variant is the best choice.

Vegetable oil

Use vegetable oils as they have more unsaturated fatty acids. For example, rapeseed, walnut, linseed or olive oil are good options.

Reduced sugar and salt

Use sugar and salt sparingly, better use herbs and spices instead.

Lots of water

Drink about 1.5 liters per day, preferably water.

Tasty and full of vitamins

Cook food as long as necessary and as short as possible while using little water and fat. A gentle preparation maintains the natural taste and protects the nutrients.

Take your time and enjoy

Even in stressful everyday life you should treat yourself to a break and not eat on the go. Slow and conscious eating promotes enjoyment and satiety.

Sufficient exercise
